Five ways to explore, make, and discover — all rooted in this coastline.

STEM by the Sea offers hands-on learning experiences led by qualified teacher Andy, blending curriculum-linked learning with the wild, inspiring landscapes of the East Yorkshire coast as well as indoor based hands on learning in our workshop.

Sometimes all it takes is the right teacher, the right pace, and a bit of space to think. Our 1:1 tutoring sessions are tailored entirely to your child — their curriculum, their gaps, their goals. Led by Andy, a qualified primary teacher with over a decade of classroom experience and subject leadership , every session is calm, focused and built around the individual learner.

  • Personalised to your child’s curriculum level and targets
  • Primarily Maths and English — other subject enquiries welcome

Science Practical Labs

Small groups · Hands-on experiments · Curious minds welcome

Real science isn’t about filling in worksheets — it’s about mixing things, testing ideas, watching what happens and figuring out why. Our small-group Science Practical Labs bring the excitement of real hands-on experiments to children who want more than a classroom can offer. Every session is led by a qualified teacher and designed to spark genuine curiosity.

  • Small group sessions for a focused, engaging experience
  • Hands-on practical experiments — not screen-based learning
  • Curriculum-linked science topics covered throughout the year
  • Safe, well-equipped workshop space
  • Ideal for home-educated children and curious learners of all backgrounds

Design & Technology Workshops

Research · Design · Make · Test

Great engineers don’t just build things — they think through problems, sketch solutions, build prototypes, and refine them when they fail. Our D&T Workshops take children through the full design process: researching the challenge, sketching a design, making it with real materials, and testing it against real conditions. No shortcuts.

  • Full design cycle: Research, Design, Make and Test
  • Real tools, real materials, real challenges
  • Curriculum-linked Design & Technology topics
  • Led by a teacher with subject experience in D&T
  • Suitable for home-educated children and school holiday sessions

Coastal Explorers

Led coastal activities · STEM on the shoreline

The East Yorkshire coast is one of the richest outdoor classrooms in the country — rockpools teeming with life, fossil beds laid down in the Cretaceous, wartime coastal defences, seabird colonies, and tidal systems to observe and predict. Coastal Explorers sessions choose from a range of led activities that connect directly to STEM — ecology, geology, engineering, biology — all done on the coastline itself, with a qualified teacher guiding every step.

  • Choose from a range of led coastal STEM activities
  • Covers ecology, geology, biology, environmental science and more
  • Delivered on the East Yorkshire coastline — Bempton, Flamborough & Bridlington
  • Suitable for home-educated children, school groups, and families
  • Led by a qualified teacher with extensive outdoor learning experience

Washed Up Crafts

Coastal craft workshops · Natural & found materials

The East Yorkshire coastline is a workshop in itself — driftwood, sea glass, shells, fossils, rope and pebbles all waiting to be turned into something beautiful. Washed Up Crafts are guided, hands-on craft workshops where participants make their own piece to take home, using natural and found materials collected from local beaches. Perfect for families, visiting groups, and anyone who wants to slow down and make something with their hands.

  • Guided workshops using natural and beach-found materials
  • Each participant makes and takes home their own piece
  • Suitable for families, adults, and mixed-age groups
  • A relaxed, creative session rooted in the local coastline
  • Great for visitors, holiday groups, and community events
