STEM by the Sea offers hands-on learning experiences led by qualified teacher Andy, blending curriculum-linked learning with the wild, inspiring landscapes of the East Yorkshire coast as well as indoor based hands on learning in our workshop in Bempton, near Bridlington and Flamborough. Home education and home schooling families, EOTAS and SEND children are all warmly welcome — find out more about home education sessions.

Sometimes all it takes is the right teacher, the right pace, and a bit of space to think. Our 1:1 tutoring sessions are tailored entirely to your child — their curriculum, their gaps, their goals. Led by Andy, a qualified primary teacher with over a decade of classroom experience and subject leadership, every session is calm, focused and built around the individual learner.

Real science isn’t about filling in worksheets — it’s about mixing things, testing ideas, watching what happens and figuring out why. Our small-group Science Practical Labs bring the excitement of real hands-on science practicals and experiments to children who want more than a classroom — or a kitchen table — can offer. Every workshop is led by a qualified teacher and designed to spark genuine curiosity.

Our design technology workshops take children through the full design process: researching the challenge, sketching a design, making it with real materials, and testing it against real conditions. Beach School & Coastal Explorers

The East Yorkshire coast is one of the richest outdoor classrooms in the country — rockpools teeming with life, fossil beds laid down in the Cretaceous, wartime coastal defences, seabird colonies, and tidal systems to observe and predict. Beach School and Coastal Explorers sessions choose from a range of led activities that connect directly to STEM — ecology, geology, engineering, biology — all done on the coastline itself, with a qualified teacher guiding every step.

Washed Up Crafts: Beach Craft Workshops

The East Yorkshire coastline is a workshop in itself — driftwood, sea glass, shells, fossils, rope and pebbles all waiting to be turned into something beautiful. Washed Up Crafts workshops are guided, hands-on beach craft sessions where participants make their own piece to take home, using natural and found materials collected from local beaches. Perfect family activities for locals and visitors, holiday groups, and anyone who wants to slow down and make something with their hands.

Every piece in the Washed Up Crafts Shop is handmade by Andy from driftwood, sea glass and other natural and beachcombed materials gathered along the East Yorkshire coast — so no two are ever the same. Pieces are now available to buy online through our shop and Etsy, as well as at local events and markets.
Where could it lead?
Every session is a first step. Our Science Labs, DT Workshops, Washed Up Crafts and Beach School each open a line to real careers, from marine biologist and wind turbine technician to furniture maker and coastal ranger, with the apprenticeships that lead there.

Andy is happy to come to you. Schools, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies, Rainbows, youth clubs and community groups across Bridlington, the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Yorkshire can book hands-on science, design & technology or coastal sessions — from a one-off STEM day to a badge session.
