Schools & Groups

Workshops for Schools and Groups

For groups of all ages — schools, home-education groups, Scouts, Guides, Brownies, youth clubs, community and retirement groups, families and friends. Sessions can run from our Bempton workshop (maximum of 8 participants), at your venue, or on the coastline itself.

Price

£160 for every 2-hour session

A flat rate for up to 8 children, which works out at £20 per child for a full group. With fewer than 8, the fee is still £160.

Group size

The flat rate covers up to 8 children. Our Bempton workshop holds a maximum of 8. Larger groups can be accommodated with notice at your venue or on the coast: each additional child is £5, with up to 8 additional children for every additional responsible adult present.

Travel

When we come to a different venue, travel time is charged on top at £8 for every 15 minutes.

Included

Teaching time, tools, materials, equipment, resources and refreshments.

Help with the cost

STEM by the Sea is actively seeking grants to offer subsidised sessions. We can also advise schools and organisations on funding pots they can apply for to cover the cost of us coming to you. If cost is a barrier, please get in touch.

What We Run

Choose your session

Science Labs

One area of chemistry, physics or biology each session, guided by the children’s own curiosity.

Design & Technology

A new project each session: problem, research, design, make, test and evaluate.

Washed Up Crafts

Creative making with sea glass, pebbles, driftwood and other finds from Yorkshire beaches.

Also available: tutoring (1:1 £40, pairs £50, groups of up to 4 £60 per one-hour session) and after-school workshops (£10 per child, maximum 8).

When

Group booking times

Autumn term: Monday 12 October to Friday 11 December 2026.

Group bookings at our workshop: Monday to Thursday 1–3pm and Thursday & Friday 10am–12 noon (from 2 November; launch weeks of 12, 19 and 26 October run a reduced timetable). These can be booked and paid for online.

By enquiry: Saturday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and sessions at your venue or on the coast.

Booking & Payment

How group bookings work

  • All sessions are pre-booked and places are limited. Full payment is taken at booking to secure your date.
  • Schools and organisations can pay by invoice, payable within 14 days of the invoice date and before the session — please ask when you enquire.
  • Please tell us about allergies, medical and SEND needs and emergency contacts when you book. A booking & registration form is completed for each child before their first session — use our online registration form (one per child).
  • Our workshop is not wheelchair accessible, so tell us about any access needs and we will do our best to help.
  • Your own leaders stay responsible for the children in their care. Children under 8 need an adult on site, and on the beach one adult per family group must be present.
  • Safety comes first. Andy’s decision on safety, weather and whether a session goes ahead is always final.
