Saturday mornings and school holidays: Saturday sessions (10am–12 noon) and Tuesday or Thursday evenings can be arranged by enquiry, and school-holiday sessions will be added soon — keep an eye on this page and our socials, or get in touch to register your interest.
Beach School & coastal workshops: coming soon. Outdoor sessions on the shoreline at Bempton, Flamborough and Bridlington will be added to the timetable shortly.
Flexible timetable: if you have a preferred time, please get in touch and I’ll try to make it work where I can. Private bookings slots can be booked for 1:1, pairs, small groups or a group of your own — a private two-hour group session is £160 for up to 8 children (our workshop holds a maximum of 8; larger groups at your venue — see Schools & Group Bookings) and can be booked online on our Book a Session page. I (Andy) run all the sessions. I hold a BA Primary Education degree with QTS, the sessions are fully insured, and I hold a first aid certificate as well as being enhanced DBS checked.

What each session involves
The prices below are as fair as I can currently make them. I’m applying for grants that will allow me to offer subsidised places. If you’d like to take part but the cost is prohibitive, please get in touch — a quiet word is all it takes.
Science Labs
Each week is different and focuses mainly on one chemistry, physics or biology area. The sessions are guided by the children, so we may go off on a mystery science-based tangent!
Design & Technology Workshops
A standalone project that changes every week. Look at the problem or idea, research, design, make, test and evaluate.
Washed Up Crafts
An ever-changing creative space that, at its core, uses sea glass, pebbles, driftwood and other items washed up on the beaches of Yorkshire to create crafts.
2-hour group sessions: £20 per child
Science Labs, D&T Workshops and Washed Up Crafts run for two hours with a maximum of 8 children. The price includes my teaching time, tools, materials, equipment, resources and access to refreshments.
Two-hour and after-school workshops need a minimum of 6 children to go ahead. If a session hasn’t reached 6 bookings 48 hours before it starts, I’ll be in touch to offer you another date or a full refund.
Tutoring
Tutoring sessions are held onsite and can be booked for 1:1, pairs or small groups of up to four children. Sessions can focus on a subject of your choosing: maths, English, science, design and technology, or something completely different. Get in touch with your ideas and I’ll happily see what I can do.
- 1:1 — £40 per one-hour session
- Paired (2 children) — £50 per session
- Small group (up to 4 children) — £60 per session
Pairs and small groups should be working on the same subject at roughly the same level and with the same aim. Tutoring can be booked and paid for online.
After-School Workshops
One-hour hands-on sessions: individual projects and paired or group challenges — D&T on Tuesdays and science on Thursdays. £10 per child (flat rate), minimum 6 and maximum 8 children.
Good to Know
Before you book
- Under 8s: for all on-site workshops, children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children over 8 are welcome to be dropped off and collected, provided they are willing and able to be respectful and follow instructions.
- Sibling discount (two-hour workshops): £5 off per additional sibling per session — e.g. two siblings at a 2-hour session would be £20 + £15.
- New families: before a child’s first session you’ll be asked to complete a short online or paper form (one per child). Your data is never shared and is stored safely by STEM by the Sea — see our Privacy Notice.
- Coming to you: if you’d like me to travel to a different venue, there is an additional charge of £8 for every 15 minutes of travel time. Groups ideally stay at a maximum of 8 because of the tools available, but please ask if you have a larger group.
